Turn a known purchase into a timely reason to return.

Reward customers when they shop with you, giving them a reason to share their receipt. Those verified interactions can then help you recognize participating shoppers by what they bought, how much they spent, where they shopped and how long it has been since their last purchase.

For physical retailers and retail groups looking to turn known purchase activity into more measurable return visits.

The commercial problem

You know repeat customers are valuable, but many in-store purchases remain disconnected from a continuing customer relationship.

A customer may buy a particular product, spend a meaningful amount or visit a specific store, then leave without giving you an obvious way to recognize that behavior later.

RunnyHoney creates that opportunity only when you first gives customers a rewarding reason to submit their receipts.

The receipt is not collected automatically. Participating shoppers choose to share it to access your game or reward experience. Those verified interactions can then build a useful history for future campaigns.

The first reward creates the connection

The repeat-visit journey begins with you rewarding a qualifying purchase.

For example:

  • Shop with us and submit your receipt to unlock a branded game.
  • Spend £40 or more to receive a reward experience.
  • Buy from a selected category to qualify.
  • Purchase at a participating store during the campaign period.

The customer completes and pays for the transaction, then submits the paper receipt through the RunnyHoney web or downloaded app.

Where the necessary information can be recognized reliably, the receipt may show:

  • You
  • The store or location
  • The purchase date
  • The transaction value
  • Particular products or categories

This shared purchase activity creates the signal that can later make a return campaign more relevant.

How it works

A shopping bag, receipt and reward token illustrating a qualifying purchase journey

1. Reward the first qualifying purchase

You create a branded game or reward experience that gives customers a reason to share their receipt.

A retail receipt being scanned for store, product, location and date details

2. The customer submits the receipt

The participating shopper uses RunnyHoney after completing and paying for the purchase.

3. RunnyHoney recognizes the available purchase details

Depending on the receipt, this may include what was bought, how much was spent, which store or location was visited and when the purchase happened.

A personalized reward invitation linked to a previous purchase

4. Define the return audience

You choose which participating shoppers you want to encourage back, based on the verified signals available.

5. Present a timely return experience

A game, message, private offer or reward can draw attention to a relevant reason to shop again.

Eligible shoppers selected from purchase signals and connected to a reward

6. The customer returns and buys

The shopper completes another transaction through your normal checkout.

Two customer receipts connected to confirm a repeat purchase

7. Verify the next purchase

A later submitted receipt can show that the participating customer returned and completed another qualifying purchase.

RunnyHoney does not see every transaction or every customer in your business. The journey depends on customers choosing to submit their receipts in response to rewarding experiences created by you.

Make the return message more relevant

A shopper reviewing a beauty product after a purchase

Participating shoppers could be selected based on:

  • A previous purchase from you
  • A particular product or category purchased
  • A minimum or previous spend amount
  • The store or location shown on the receipt
  • The date of the last shared qualifying purchase
  • The time since that purchase
  • A combination of available purchase signals
An assortment representing garden, beauty and fashion product categories

Examples might include:

  • Invite customers who bought garden furniture back for seasonal accessories.
  • Alert shoppers who purchased from a beauty category to a relevant launch.
  • Reward customers who previously spent above a chosen amount.
  • Present a store-specific experience to people whose shared receipt shows they bought at that location.
  • Create a timely invitation for participating shoppers who have not shared another purchase within your normal buying cycle.

The campaign can only use information available from receipts customers have chosen to share and other permitted RunnyHoney signals.

What can encourage the return visit?

The experience could draw attention to:

  • A new or complementary product
  • A private return-customer offer
  • A selected category
  • A seasonal range
  • A store event
  • A reward available at a previous or participating location
  • A minimum-spend opportunity
  • A unique offer available through the RunnyHoney store
  • A time-limited reason to return

The reward should support the commercial behavior you want. The purpose is not simply to generate another game play, but to create a relevant reason for another purchase.

Two campaign routes

Three retail receipts arranged as a timeline of purchase history

Through RunnyHoney purchase activity

When you reward qualifying purchases through RunnyHoney, participating shoppers can build a history of verified interactions.

RunnyHoney can then present relevant experiences to eligible users based on the available purchase, product, spend, time and store or location signals.

Personal data from RunnyHoney Rewards participants is not passed to you.

You can also create personalized invitations to gamified experiences for customer lists it is permitted to use.

The experience may be delivered through your own RunnyHoney channel or supported integrations with its website, signed-in customer portal or app.

Your own BeeLiked promotion can collect permitted contact information, marketing opt-ins and zero-party data according to its campaign design and consent choices.

These routes can complement one another. The delivery model should be chosen around your audience, permissions and commercial objective.

Why this is different from a generic return offer

A generic offer treats every past customer in the same way.

A purchase-informed experience can be shaped around behavior the customer has actually chosen to share.

You can make the reason to return more relevant to:

  • What they bought.
  • How much they spent.
  • Where they shopped.
  • When they last purchased.

The game creates attention and anticipation. The message, offer or reward gives the customer a reason to act. A later receipt can provide evidence that another purchase took place.

What you can control

Depending on the campaign, permissions and receipt information available, you may define:

  • The original qualifying purchase
  • Selected products or categories
  • Previous or minimum spend
  • Participating stores or locations
  • Time since the last shared purchase
  • Campaign dates
  • Customer participation frequency
  • Maximum campaign volume
  • Game, prize and reward design
  • Offer availability, rules and expiry

How to measure the result

Your own transaction and customer systems remain the source of truth for wider commercial performance.

Useful measures may include:

Customers who submitted an initial qualifying receipt

Return experiences delivered

Game participation

Private offers or codes unlocked

Later qualifying receipts submitted

Time between shared purchases

Repeat purchases by product, category or participating location

Transaction value on the later purchase

BeeLiked records campaign activity and qualifying interactions available within the promotion. You combine this with your own commercial data to assess the effect on repeat visits and purchases.

Common questions

01

Does RunnyHoney automatically know who shops with you?

No. You must create a rewarding reason for customers to submit their receipts. RunnyHoney only recognizes purchase activity that participating shoppers choose to share.

02

Can every previous customer be targeted?

No. Receipt-based targeting applies to participating shoppers whose relevant purchases have been shared through RunnyHoney. You may separately use permitted customer lists through your own BeeLiked account.

03

Can shoppers be targeted by what they bought?

Yes, where the product or category can be identified reliably from the shared receipt.

04

Can shoppers be targeted by how much they spent?

Yes, where the receipt total can be identified reliably.

05

Can the previous store or location be used?

Yes, where the store or location can be identified reliably from the receipt. This is based on shared purchase information, not continuous location tracking.

06

Can the campaign recognize that someone has not returned?

It can recognize that a participating shopper has not shared another qualifying purchase within the chosen period. This does not prove they made no other unshared purchase.

07

How is the return purchase verified?

The customer completes and pays for another purchase, then submits the new receipt through RunnyHoney. The receipt can be checked against the campaign criteria.

08

Can you collect customer data?

A promotion run through your own BeeLiked account can collect permitted contact information, marketing opt-ins and zero-party data according to its design and consent choices. Personal data from RunnyHoney Rewards participants is not passed to you.
